A Visit to Abuelito's in Calhoun, GA

Knoxville, TN

We have made two trips to Knoxville to see Julie, Nick, and Lily in the last month...what can I say, we miss our friends! We have been tubing, gone to see the largest underground lake in North America (which the kids thought was the bat cave), played at the World's Fair Park, and visited the zoo. Above, Micaela fits right in with a monument of well-known suffragists.

Strike a pose!

Micaela, the zebra!

Mateo, the lion

Road Trip to Myrtle Beach, South Carolina

We decided to take a spontaneous trip down to Myrtle Beach this weekend. It was lots of fun, great views and warm water, and the kids are already begging us for another beach trip.

Mateo enjoys a frozen strawberry drink poolside.

Micaela loves her daddy...she is slowly turning into quite the daddy's girl.

Broadway on the beach. You can feed the huge fish in the water seen here. We also went to the aquarium there. Mateo's favorite sea animals are the sharks and the swordfish.

Micaela steers a boat in our favorite restaurant (it has been about 10 years since we have been there!)

Running from the waves :-)

Mateo buries Miguel in the sand.

I hope we will make lots of trips to the beach this summer!

The La Serna Garden

We have some old mulch beds in the back of the house that we have been trying to update. So, the kids wanted a garden :-) Miguel and I don't have green thumbs, so we will see how long the plants last, but the kids certainly enjoyed planting and watering daily!

MSA Graduation

Receiving my degree...

Arriving to the Dean Dome.

Family support :-) Thanks for watching the kids during the ceremony Miguel and Abuelita, not an easy task!

Mateo congratulates me after the ceremony and Micaela tries on the cap (a future UNC grad?)

It is hard to believe how fast the last two years have gone. MSA...completed! How many more years have I just agreed to to finish my doctorate?????? YIKES!

Superhero Party for Mateo's 5th

Mateo called all his superhero friends to a birthday party where all the superheroes had to band together to defeat a villain that was attempting to destroy happy birthdays everywhere. Here he is admiring the cake that his cousin Rebecca made him!!!! It was delicious too (even though Mateo thought it looked too good to eat)!

The superheros defeat the villain ninja and saved the happy birthday in the end!

Superhero training course...(yes, those are the SUPER PJ's that Tia Korah got Mateo and the SUPER cape from Nannie and Papa)

The Ninja (aka Demian) prepares a Kryptonite attack.

I can't believe there are FIVE candles on that cake!!!

Mateo and his one of his best buds.

The superheros diffuse balloon bombs left by the ninja...just in time to save the day.

Super girl was there for the action too...

It is hard to believe that our little superhero is five years old.

UNC Lacrosse Clinic

Lacrosse is officially added as one of Mateo's favorite sports! The UNC players were great with the kids...Mateo had a blast!
